Kindle Touch to Developers: “C’mere and Stick Your Fingers in My Code.”

Amirza commented on my post on whether or not to buy a Kindle that even if Amazon doesn’t release an update for landscape mode— or for any other trouble, for that matter— there’s always Yifan Lu’s Wonderful Fantastic and Marvellous Kindle Touch Jailbreak Page!

Like I replied, I have absolutely no idea what it’s about since I don’t code (learning with codeacademy.com right now but still a complete utter disappointing nooooob) but…

I can glean that the innards of the Kindle are basically open to all and sundry. It’s a developer’s playground. It’s so much more fun to developers right now than the Transformer Prime is with its 128 bit encryption!

For the non-coders among us, this means Asus locked up their stuff and said, “GO AWAY, DON’T TOUCH MY STUFF.” They are so selfish. Of course, the developer communities erupted in collective indignation and, Asus caved in. :) In case you’re interested:

How Asus patronized customers like little kids.

Asus surrenders and agrees to unlock the bootloader AND give us Ice Cream Sandwich.

Thanks, Amirza, for pointing us to Yifan Lu! It’s always great when developers are permitted to tweak and create things.
